Slidell Bantam Baseball
Association (SBBA)
SBBA is a not-for-profit
organization formed in the early 1950s to provide recreational softball and baseball to
the youth of the Slidell area. Independent of the parish and city governments, SBBA
depends upon registration fees, sponsor fees, fundraising activities and donations for its
financial well-being. It depends on parents and family members to volunteer as coaches,
commissioners, team coordinators, score-keepers and, most importantly, spectators. The
organization is administered by an all-volunteer board of directors elected annually by
the membership. SBBA has approximately 2,000 boys and girls participating, ages 5 to 17.
They also host three separate tournaments at the regular seasons end. The annual
Fourth of July Tournament saw approximately 100 teams participating, with many teams
traveling from as far away as Kansas to participate in the USSA World Series. SBBA is
located off of Terrace Avenue, north of Old Spanish trail, with twelve fields that allow
all games to be played within one facility. From April through June, there are games five
nights a week and all day Saturday. Membership is open to everyone in the greater Slidell
area.

Slidell Youth Basketball
Association (SYBA)
The SYBA is an incorporated youth
sports organization dedicated to providing quality recreation to the youth of the Slidell
area. It is governed by a board of directors elected each year by the general membership
comprised of the coaches and parents of the participating youths. The SYBA provides
recreation to over 1,000 girls and boys ages 5-17 through their participation in
basketball and volleyball leagues. The program has grown to over 1,000 participants. In
addition to regular season play, the SYBA is represented by players in age groups 8
through 12 who travel across the state to compete in biddy basketball tournaments. Having
no facilities of its own, the SYBA depends on the city of Slidell and area school gyms for
practice and game facilities. The association is financed through participant registration
fees, sponsorship by local businesses and an annual grant from the city of Slidell. It
takes a major commitment by a large number of dedicated individuals to run an organization
of this size. The SYBA has been blessed with outstanding participation from board members,
volunteer coaches, sponsors, school and city administrators and parents of children
involved.

Slidell Youth Football
Association (SYFA)
The SYFA is a non-profit,
volunteer organization established in 1967 to provide children 5 1/2-13 an opportunity to
play tackle football in a safe, organized environment. All SYFA coaches are nationally
certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. This program now has
approximately 600 participants on 32 teams, plus approximately 400 participants in its
auxiliary cheerleading program. The program is funded primarily by private fund-raising
activities, donations from individuals and support from the city of Slidell. The
32-year-old organization is directed by seven board members and is the oldest volunteer
youth athletic association operation on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. SYFA
facilities are located in Slidell off of Terrace Avenue, where they have three full-sized
football fields.

Slidell Youth Soccer Club
The Slidell Youth Soccer Club is a
non-profit organization that provides an outlet for boys and girls 5-19 in Slidell and the
surrounding area to participate in the sport of soccer. The club played its first full
season in the fall of 1976 with 100 players (seven teams) and 35 games. Now the club
boasts 1,500 players on over 100 teams that compete in weekend games on the 25 local
soccer fields. The club offers 5 levels of play: developmental, ages 5-10; recreational,
ages 11-19; premier, amateur and adult. Funding is derived entirely from player
registration fees and team sponsorships. The cost is $60 a season or $85 a year. The fee
includes the cost of a complete uniform. A discount is given for families with more than
one child registering. Registration is held in August and January. Registration is at its
highest and continues to climb because of the popularity of soccer to players, coaches and
parents. Soccer is the international sport and the fastest growing one in the United
States.
